In the pursuit of stimulating and facilitating trade on its platform, the Ghana Commodity Exchange organized a forum for its trading members, the objective of which was to train the members on warehouse receipt financing and ascertain their concerns for the year ending 2019 in order to work towards addressing all concerns in the delivery of an excellent service in the year 2020.

The forum, which was held on Wednesday 13th February 2020 at the Head Office of GCX, saw the attendance of individuals who represented 24 GCX Member organisations.

The session began with an update on the operations of the Exchange. Members were briefed on trading operations, new additions to warehouses and the outlook of the Exchange. Members were then allowed to complete needs assessment questionnaires and share their concerns after which a presentation on warehouse receipt financing was made. The attendees then had a brief interaction with the CEO of the Exchange, Dr Kadri Alfah.

A few concerns and subsequent suggestions were made and members were assured that GCX is instituted to help farmers and the commodity value chain as a whole and as more people get to know about GCX, the Exchange will eventually become the market of choice with the conventional market looking up to the Exchange when it comes to pricing of commodities. The brokers were therefore encouraged to help build and strengthen the Exchange to help improve liquidity on the market.

Many other suggestions were well received by the Exchange with a focus of bettering the experience of members of the Exchange.

Members were also informed that GCX is ready to support their businesses by providing official certification & identification that will set the Exchange’s members apart from others in the same line of business.
